The Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has said that, the first salaries of prospective applicants of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) will start in August this year. Dr Bawumia disclosed that, the first badge of employees under the program will receive their salaries in August 2018.
He said as part measures to tackle the rate of graduate unemployment in the country, President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo earlier this year launched the NABCo program to employ some 100, 000 unemployed graduates across Ghana.
Addressing the Muslim community in Tamale on Sunday, June 10, 2018 during his Ramadan tour of the northern region, the Vice President stated categorically that, the Akuffo Addo led NPP government inherited a bare bone economy from the previous Mahama led National Democratic Congress administration and thereby had to think outside the box to get funds to bring prosperity to the Ghanaian people.
He accused the erstwhile Mahama government of messing up the country’s economy in their 8years of political governance. Nonetheless, he said with the prayers and support of Ghanaians, especially the Muslim community, the NPP government has been able to implement many of its flagship programs of Planting for Food and Jobs, Free Senior High School, Restoring the Teacher and Nursing Trainee allowances, subsidized the price of fertilizer by 50%, reduce electricity bills and establish the Nation Builders Corp all in eighteen months.
“We have initiated the One Village, One Dam policy and people will very soon see the construction of dams around the country, we have established the Zongo Ministry and the Zongo Development Fund which is going to be provided with GH₵100,000,000 this year, we have done all these not by our strength but by the grace of Allah and Insha Allah, with your prayers we would try and do more, we’ve recruited 3000 Arabic teachers to help in the Arabic education and currently recruiting 15,000 unemployed youth under the Forestry Commission and Nana Akuffo Addo has said we would not add a pesewa this year in the Hajj fares and it will be $15,000 USD as it was last year, we have embarked on a major policy implementation programs” he indicated further.
The Vice President Dr Bawumia revealed the next major face of government would be infrastructure. He said government will focus on the roads, hospitals and the water system. “I want to tell the people of Tamale that, Insha Allah, we would have the first interchange in Tamale, first in the three regions of the north later this year, so we are praying that you would give us your support and we would try and deliver to you” he assured.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to visit Nalerigu in the Mamprugu traditional area on Monday in the second leg of his Ramadan tour in the northern region. It is the second time in two years that, the Vice President has toured the country during the month of Ramadan.
