The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Salifu Sa-eed has described the year 2018 as a period of more excitement and engaging as government enrolls many flagship programs and policies. He said the Akuffo Addo administration is repackaging the northern regional capital, Tamale as a business hub to serve the Sahelian countries.
He noted that, under the circumstance, “I realized the population is putting a lot of pressure on the existing roads, so I was able to put up a proposal that, we should have an interchange in Tamale, so that, it will change the face of Tamale and that will start from point 7 up to the State Transport Company (STC) yard, so that we will also have a Tamale-Shanghai and that is what would happen and Thank God that, when I sent it, the President, the Vice President and the Roads Minister, they were very happy, they said you can be sure that we will have an interchange that will also befit Shanghai in Tamale and that was the reason why they captured it in the 2018 budget statement. We are working very hard that it will start this year, I told them that they should be able to award it before June this year”.
The purported Tamale interchange is expected to be built from the remaining $2 billion Chinese Eximbank loan facility, which the Chinese has promised to give to the Akuffo Addo led NPP government after the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia visited China last year.Under the new agreement, the $2 billion would be used to fund grand industrialization policies; the one district, one factory.
He added government has also brought in a number of investors to help develop the agricultural sector of the country. “Just about four days ago, I was with the Iran Ambassador, I requested for some scholarships to be given to brilliant but needy students. They have given me some package to be given to brilliant but needy students. They were also running some agricultural program called ARD and now that program is no more and I have requested for them to revamp the place, so they are going to support us in the agricultural base” he stated.
Mr. Salifu Sa-eed said aside that, the New Year is going to be very exciting and engaging given the fact that, a lot of job opportunities will be opened with the full scale-up of government’s pro-poor initiatives.
He added that, “in all of these things we are talking, peace is very critical, we need to have sustainable peace in northern region before all these good things can happen, because the one district, one factory initiative, is private people we calling to come and invest their resources and a lot of the things we are doing, is private people we are bring but they will not like to invest their monies in areas where they are fighting”.
The Minister said this in his New Year message on Monday, January 1, 2018 at his residence in Tamale. He further urged all stakeholders in the region especially the Chiefs to cooperate and support government and take the lead in ensuring that in their respective communities and traditional areas, there is absolute peace and coexistence.
“If you look at some of the flash points, they are many in the region but we are not also sleeping over them as a government but those that are chieftaincy conflicts, we are appealing to the custodians and the traditional people to see to it that, they manage the process and get us substantive Chiefs in their respective areas” he said.
