Members of the Tamale metropolitan assembly who signed a resolution to pass vote of no confidence on the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Iddrisu Musah Superior have backed down. On October 25, 2017, some members of the assembly numbering 31 signed a petition seeking to impeach the MCE from office citing various reasons.
According to the leader of the petitioners and Assembly member for the Bamvim electoral area, Alhaji Kwame murtala revealed the reason behind backing down their quest to impeach the Tamale mayor is persuaded by some chiefs and the presiding member of the assembly.
He however noted “the allegations that we leveled against the Mayor still stands and also we refer the whole issue to the public relations complaints committee (PRCC) at the assembly. He urged the committee to invite the mayor and concern parties to resolve the matter internally.
Meanwhile, the Presiding Member of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Hon Adam Abubakari Takoroo received the notice and thanked his colleagues for withdrawing the petition against the mayor, saying
“it is a mark of democracy”. He however revealed the allegation leveled against the Mayor will be investigated. Speaking to the group present at his palace, Gukpegu Naa Abdulai Alhassan thanked the assembly members for their gesture but urged Islamic clerics to work in unity and honesty for a better development in Northern region.
