The age-long Chieftaincy dispute bedeviling the Dagbon traditional area appears to be coming to an end anytime soon. This follows the two feuding factions, the Abudus and Andanis resolution to resume the discussion process at the Otumfuo Mediation Committee.
Through the persistent persuasion by the Northern Regional Security Council under the leadership of the Regional Minister, Hon Salifu Sa-eed, the leaders of the two royal gates have shown optimism on the peaceful resolution on the Chieftaincy impasse.
According to the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Hon. Salifu Saeed, over the past seven months, REGSEC has been engaging in intensive discussions with the various stakeholders in the Yendi Skin Affairs and the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by the Overload of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Minister in a statement copied to North Star news revealed the council also conferred with the Overloads of Mamprugu and Gonjaland, Nayiri Mahami Bohagu and Yagbon-Wura Tuntumba Boresa I respectively. “Opinion leaders, Youth groups, and Citizens have also been engaged in various forms at various times in the region and Dagbon in particular on securing peace in the area” he added.
“In all engagements there is an overwhelming endorsement on the need for the Dagbon Chieftaincy to be resolved as quickly as possible, to pave the way for the speedy socio-economic growth of Dagbon and the entire region. There is also absolute unanimity for peace to prevail and for Dagbon to once again take its place as a beacon of Chieftaincy and tradition in Ghana” he stressed further.
Then Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akuffo Addo pledged during the 2016 campaign period to play a neutral role in resolving the Abudu and Andani Chieftaincy dispute.
Meanwhile, North Star news understand the determination of REGSEC to contribute to the resolution of the matter remains unshaken and the efforts and progress so far, gives the clearest indication of success ahead.
The Regional Minister stated REGSEC will in collaboration with the two royal families and the other major stakeholders (Andanis and Abudus) to ensure that lasting peace is achieved in Dagbon and the Northern Region.
”REGSEC is also collaborating with the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to launch a programme dubbed “Dagbon Peace and Progress Now”. This programme seeks to generate a renewed interest and commitment to resolving all Chieftaincy problems in the area, which will ultimately pave the way for absolute peace in Dagbon” he stated.
Information available to North Star news reveals the programme will involve traditional rulers, opinion leaders, Youth groups, Stakeholders and government officials since this is the first major event in many years now.
